Shortly after arriving in New York, we picked up a rental car and headed for the hills (as they say). We drove up to the house that we rented for the weekend in The Catskills. As soon as we hit the mountains, the kids were dying to hit the Esopus River. So we drove around and drove around and drove around until we could find a public place to park the car and run for the water.

At the end of the summer, we made a trip to New York to visit my parents. I really wanted to make sure we got up to see them before they are done with their mission (18 months goes by so quickly when you are not the one on a mission). My mom and dad were anxious for a break from the big city life, so we made plans to visit The Catskills. But we did take a quick walk around the city on the afternoon we flew into town.

We went to the top of Mom and Dad's apartment building (38 floors, I think) to enjoy the view of the city.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Then we walked across town to enjoy mounds and mounds of meat at the Carnegie Deli. The corned beef sandwiches were huge and tasty. The cheesecake was to die for.

I know that people who didn't grow up in Texas may think the homecoming mum is a weird concept, but I totally disagree. They may barely resemble their real mum and ribbon origin, but they are still fun. Why wouldn't you want to walk around all day with a fake mum and some ribbons, bells and other fun trinkets hanging from you all day?

 

 

I love the little tennis ball they added.

Although it is only the third week of school, Cy Woods had their homecoming week last week. I suppose with 10 high schools in the district, they had to get an early start to fit them all in during the football season. Helmut decided not to go (despite all my pestering to get him to go), Josh went with Erin. We met at a local park to get pics before all the kids took off for the night.

A few other people had a similar idea.
