Remember that agreement I talked about? The one in which Helmut and I talked it over casually and decided instead of exchanging gifts we would just go out for a nice meal together. Well let's just say that I kept up my end of the bargain. He did not. Don't get my wrong. I love a Valentine's gift just as much as the next girl (and I am certainly keeping it). What I don't like is coming off looking like a heel. I am afraid in this case, that is exactly what happened.
He presented me with this box after dinner.
And this is what was inside.
This isn't just any old watch. This is the exact watch that I showed him about six months ago and told him I really, really, really wanted it. He asked me, "What about the watch I just got you for your birthday?" I assured him that I still loved the watch he just got me, but a girl doesn't really need just one watch. She needs a healthy array so she can choose the one that best matches her outfit for the day. At the time, I wasn't sure he was buying it, seeing as how he is wearing just watch number three in the 20 years I have known him. So this gift was about more than just a watch. It was the fact that he listened to me that day and then tucked that small bit of information away until just the right time. To me, that is gift giving at its finest.
Lucky girl! Lucky Boy! Lucky Kids! Sounds like a whole lot of loving going on!!!!!
