Helmut's football season turned out a bit differently than we expected. He suffered a proximal hamstring strain on the last week of summer strength and conditioning camp. The doctor suggested he rest his leg a few weeks and then go from there. After sitting on the sidelines for the first two weeks of summer practice the doctor cleared him to practice again as long as his leg was wrapped with Kinesio tape. He powered through the last couple weeks of summer practice. His hamstring was bothering him, but he kept reassuring me that it wasn't too bad. The summer practice ended with a midnight pep rally and scrimmage. When I saw him play at that scrimmage and hobble off the field, I knew his hamstring was hurting more than he was letting on. We saw the doctor again and started a six week rest period along with a bunch of physical therapy and Graston therapy. I know that sitting on the sidelines watching everyone else practice and play was very frustrating to Helmut at times, but he found ways to contribute to the team when he could.
A couple of weeks ago, he was finally cleared to practice and play again. We are so thrilled to be able to watch him play the last few games of the season.
